The Kilgore Flora (Miocene to of the United States)

Where: Cherry County County, Nebraska (42.0° N, 100.4° W: paleocoordinates 42.5° N, 97.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Valentine Formation (Ogallala Group), Barstovian to Barstovian (16.3 - 9.4 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; unlithified, gray claystone

• the Valentine formation, the lowest member of theOgallala is made up almost entirely of fine gray calcareous sands, with a few horizons of cemented caliche sand. The Valentine rests on an erosion surface developed on rather well cemented sandy or silty clays, dark gray with a pinkish cast. The clay beds have been tentatively assigned to the "Brule Clays" of Oligocene age.

Size classes: macrofossils, microfossils

Preservation: original carbon
